John 3:23-24, John The Baptist Exalts Christ
23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized 24 (for John had not yet been put in prison).
In the presence of John the baptizer, God revealed Jesus as the Messiah. Was not John’s mission accomplished? Should the baptizer have quickly retired? Apparently not, for he continues to participate in the ministry of Jesus by making disciples and baptizing them. John knows that God has only called him to prepare the way, and that his ministry is tied to Jesus, pointing at what God is doing. He continues to preach the need for repentance as he shakes up the established order, so much so that he will soon be headed to prison.
How has God called you to participate in what He is doing? How can you practice the same posture as John, by pointing to what Jesus is doing (and not yourself!)?
