John 8:25-26, I Have Much to Say
25 So they said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been telling you from the beginning. 26 I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him."
Ironically, the Pharisees express their problem openly: they do not know who Jesus is. They cannot get their heads around him. They are deaf to his truth and blind to his true identity. Their inability to comprehend him leads them toward hostility rather than an acknowledgment that they need to grow more themselves in understanding the God they claim to serve.
Jesus is judging and will continue to judge the Pharisees. They claim to speak with authority. Jesus claims to speak for the one who is the Authority. How often people speak with an air of authority to mask their lack of authority!
Where do you speak with authority in your life? Are you masking anything? Ask the One who is Authority to speak discernment into your life as you follow Jesus.
