Knowing The Word in Genesis 30:19-24, God Remembers

19 And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. 20 Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name Zebulun [meaning endowment or glory]. 21 Afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah [vindication]. [Leah appears to be in a good place emotionally at this point.]

22 Then God remembered Rachel [finally, like he did Noah], and God listened to her and opened her womb [seven years after her marriage/fourteen after her betrothal]. 23 She conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach [shame].” 24 And she called his name Joseph, saying, “May the Lord add to me another son!” [Perhaps this is a prayer anticipating the birth of Benjamin, which will happen at the cost of her life.]

[Genesis never condones polygamy. Lamek’s petty wives, Adah and Zillah, had to cope with a brutal husband. Sarah giving Hagar to Abraham was a disaster. And in this case, Jacob never seems to forgive Leah for participating in her father’s deception. He always regards Rachel as his wife and treats Leah and her sons as inferior, leading to Leah’s sons trying to eliminate Joseph.]
