Knowing The Word in Genesis 40:20-23, Pharaoh's Birthday
20 On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and lifted up the head [called them out] of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. 21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand. 22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. [After perfectly interpreting the dreams, proving that God was with him, Joseph is left bitterly disappointed in as hopeless a situation as he was when he was first cast into prison. He stays there for another two years, appearing to have been forgotten by men and God. This story proved that God is with Joseph in a difficult situation even though it is not resolved to Joseph’s liking. What does this tell us about God and about us? One thing is that God will act in his timing. We are actors, in a sense, in his play that he directs.]
