Knowing The Word in Genesis 49:20-21, Asher and Naphtali


20 “Asher's food shall be rich, and he shall yield royal delicacies. [The Asherites settled in a fertile strip running north from the Carmel range and possibly traded with the Canaanites and Phoenicians.]

21 “Naphtali is a doe let loose that bears beautiful fawns. [It is hard to translate this verse and understand its meaning. Most likely it is a mild rebuke that Naphtali exchanged her original freedom (“let loose”) for a later more sedentary domesticated lifestyle (“bearing fawns”), accommodating itself to the Canaanite population.]
