Knowing The Word in Genesis 49:8-12, Judah is Blessed

8 “Judah, your brothers shall praise you [because you shall become a leader]; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies [a gesture of triumph]; your father's sons shall bow down before you. [The blessing predicts Judah’s supremacy over Joseph to whom the brothers bowed.] 9 Judah is a lion's cub [like a lion feared by all other animals and perhaps alluding to the wild beast that devoured Joseph]; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him? [Perhaps prophesying David’s military victories.] 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff [symbols of authority; alluding to what he gave Tamar?] from between his feet [an allusion to private parts, meaning that his descendants shall continue to rule], until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. [Judah will rule over foreign nations.] 11 Binding his foal to the vine and his donkey's colt to the choice vine, he has washed his garments in wine [alluding to Joseph’s coat dipped in blood?] and his vesture in the blood of grapes. [These images suggest a land of fruitfulness where one does not worry about a donkey eating the grapes of the vine to which it is tied. There are so many grapes no one cares about the donkey eating them. Donkeys are the transportation mode of leaders and rulers.] 12 His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk. [Judah is the leader of Israel.]
