Knowing The Word in Luke 15:8-10
The Parable of the Lost Coin
15:8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Comments
This parable is highly relatable. While ten silver coins have little overall value, losing one represents a significant loss to someone who has little to begin with. Who would not, in her situation, diligently search for the lost coin? Jesus then gives the same application in this story of a heavenly celebration over the repentance of one sinner.
Application
While one human being out of billions seems insignificant, God sees each one as extremely valuable. The question for each of us is do we see others as God sees them? If we did, this world would be very different. Part of discipleship, part of sanctification, part of our growth in Christlikeness includes seeing the value God sees in others.
Prayer
Father, help me to rejoice today about those who were lost and now are found because you seek them out and save them. Encourage me to work with you and for you in this great endeavor of bringing people to you in faith. Warm my heart with love for others and eyes that see their great value.
