Knowing The Word in Luke 21:25-28
The Coming of the Son of Man
21:25 “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Comments
Jesus has apparently shifted from the destruction of Jerusalem to his second coming. It is not clear how literal he is being. Most apocalyptic scripture symbolically illustrates the coming of a new order suddenly and/or violently. People will know something is happening, but they will not understand. Coming with glory points to royal power, a power we first see in the cross where Jesus paid the redemption price for our salvation. Yet our full redemption awaits us. When these events occur, we can be sure our full redemption is drawing near.
Application
I find it amusing when some Christians write books about blood moons and try and predict that end time prophecies are being fulfilled in specific events. However, we must all be ready and aware of what is happening. The way we keep ready is to stay obedient to the commandments of Jesus.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I await your coming in glory—not to be born an infant again, but to come as our judge in great glory. Keep me for that great day.
