Knowing The Word in Luke 24:44-49

Jesus Opened Their Minds
24:44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Comments
The fulfilment of Scripture was one of Luke’s major themes. There was no part of Scripture that did not speak about Jesus—the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms. Jesus also reminded his disciples of all that he had taught beforehand about his death and resurrection and that this was the plan all along. As at dinner in Emmaus, Jesus opened the minds of his disciples.
Jesus then instructed his disciples to proclaim a message for the repentance of sins. This was not some general idea of repentance and forgiveness. This message was explicitly tied to what Jesus had done on the cross and in his resurrection. Then Jesus gave them a heads-up about the Holy Spirit and Pentecost.
Application
Jesus was clear about knowing Scripture, and that is why all Christians are called to read and reflect upon all of God’s Word. What is your reading plan?
Prayer
Father God, open my mind to your holy words today.
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see you as you are today in glory.
Holy Spirit, open my heart that can be listless and lethargic.
Holy Trinity, open my mind, eyes, and heart to know you and love you forever.
