Knowing The Word in Luke 4:14-15
Jesus Begins His Ministry
4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Comments
After his wilderness victory of proving himself to be the “true Israel,” Jesus returns to his home turf. Luke is the gospel writer who focuses most on the power of the Holy Spirit in the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. The Spirit propels Jesus into ministry as he moves from town to town, teaching in synagogues. The Spirit is noticeable in the life of Jesus and people know about him as his popularity spreads. While not giving us details, we know from elsewhere that Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead to life alongside his teaching. Powerful miracles accompanied all he did on this preaching tour, causing people to glorify him, expressing their understanding of the deity in him.
