Knowing The Word in Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A Psalm of David.

24 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2 for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.

3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah

7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah

This psalm celebrates the King, specifically God as King of Israel. It also celebrates the fact that he fights for his people. He is a Divine Warrior who brings blessing, victory, and vindication to his people, and they love him.

Prayer

You are holy

You are holy, Lord, the only God and your deeds are wonderful.

You are strong, you are great.

You are the most high, you are almighty.

You, holy Father, are King of heaven and earth.

You are three and one, Lord God, all good.

You are good, all good, supreme good, Lord God, living and true.

You are love, you are wisdom.

You are humility, you are endurance.

You are rest, you are peace.

You are joy and gladness, you are justice and moderation.

You are all riches, and you suffice for us.

You are beauty, you are gentleness.

You are our protector, you are our guardian and defender.

You are courage, you are our haven and our hope.

You are our faith, our great consolation.

You are our eternal life, great and wonderful Lord.

God almighty, merciful Savior.

Francis of Assisi, 1181-1226
