Matthew 10:1-4, The Twelve Apostles
1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. 2 The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

In response to the need for workers, Jesus called twelve men to himself, representing the twelve tribes of Israel, to be the true people of God. He gave them a mission (not institutional authority): heal the sick and cast out demons. He called them apostles, meaning “those who are sent.”
Followers of Jesus are people sent out on mission, not people who only gather weekly in a Christian club house. Our lives are to be on constant mission, looking out for lost sheep, hurting souls, and suffering individuals. As Jesus called each apostle by name, he calls you as well. He knows you and equips you.
Prayer
