Matthew 14:34-36, Jesus Heals in Gennesaret
34 And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick 36 and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Comments
Gennesaret was an area on the western shore south of Capernaum. Jesus was well known is this area, especially as a healer. This is an interesting pericope in that all the previous healings were personal whereas these healings seem impersonal. Yet the story of the woman healed by touching his garment in 9:20-22 illustrates that it was very personal. In his great compassion, Jesus proclaims the kingdom of heaven to as many people as possible, allowing them to experience it as well.
Prayer
O God, the source of all health: So fill my heart with faith in your love, that with calm expectancy I may make room for your power to possess me, and gracefully accept your healing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
