Matthew 7:21-23. I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Jesus could not be clearer than these harsh statements. Jesus sees right into our hearts, and he either sees transformation founded in him or corruption that is not of him.
Christianity presents a realistic faith where sin is mixed with the goodness of Jesus in his followers. While we may be surprised by evil in our midst, Jesus is not. The good news is that while our judgment and discernment is imperfect, his is perfect.
As his followers, we are to ask for his help daily. Below is the Collect for Purity, that reminds us we are dependent upon his goodness and mercy.
Prayer
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
