Matthew 8:14-17, Jesus Heals Many
14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
Comments
Jesus probably stayed in Peter’s house in Capernaum. Here we find another person excluded from the congregation because she was a woman. Jesus healed her instantly and restored her to full health. She went straight to work when most of us need a day to recover after being healed.
In story after story Jesus restores people on the outside, bringing them into new life in him, undoing the damage of original sin. Where have you seen Jesus do something like this in your life?
Prayer
O God, the source of all health: So fill my heart with faith in your love, that with calm expectancy I may make room for your power to possess me, and gracefully accept your healing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
