The Kingdom Revealed in Jesus Christ

The Theme of the Gospel
The theme of the gospel has to do with the Kingdom, and this idea of Kingdom is not something completely new—it is “at hand” because the “time is fulfilled.”
The gospel of God is a declaration of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ, rather than what God does in the believer. The facts concerning Jesus are:
o The Incarnation
o His Perfect Life
o The Crucifixion
o His Resurrection
Each kingdom expression differs from those that precede it.
In the New Testament the interpretation of the Old Testament is not “literal” but “Christological.”
The People of the Kingdom
Jesus is depicted as the true Adam or last Adam (Romans 5:18-21)
Jesus is the seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:1)
Jesus is the true Israel (Matthew 4:1-11)
Jesus is the son of David
Jesus is the new race
The Location of the Kingdom
The OT Temple
Jesus is God and man in closest union
The locality of the Kingdom is Jesus Christ himself.
The Rule of the Kingdom
The gospel is the fulfillment of the hope of the new covenant.
Christ the King rules in our hearts
The Kingdom: Now and Not Yet
There is nothing the believer will possess in future glory that he does not now possess in Christ
The first coming of Christ interprets the second coming
Christ the Kingdom
Biblical theology shows us the process of revelation in the Bible leading to the fulfillment of all hope in Jesus Christ. Since Christ is the goal to which all revelation points, he, himself, in his person and acts, is the key to the interpretation of all scripture.
Jesus Christ contains in himself the Kingdom of God. The gospel is a gospel of man restored to proper relationships in Christ.
