The Name

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

In Jesus, all that results from his coming is secure for us. Consider who you have in Jesus:

· A Wonderful Counselor (with “wonder” meaning “supernatural”)

· A Might God (who has warrior strength to liberate you)

· An Everlasting Father (applied to Yahweh alone, meaning Jesus and the Father are one)

· A Prince of Peace (who is a whole, integrated man at one with God and humanity)

Reflect on these titles of Jesus for one minute each, spending time with your Savior, Master, and Friend.

Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
